About OCASC — A Shared Voice for School Councils

The Ottawa-Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC) is a volunteer organization that links school councils within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). Its purpose is to provide a space for councils to exchange information, discuss common issues, and remain informed about district-level matters that affect students and families. Every OCDSB school with a council may send a delegate, and all council delegates are welcome to attend meetings.

OCASC does not make or approve school or Board decisions. Its role is to connect the people who provide advice at the school level with Board leadership and senior staff. When several councils identify similar concerns or opportunities, those perspectives can be shared collectively so that district-level discussions include a broad parent view supported by lived experience from multiple schools.

Participation helps councils stay informed and avoid working in isolation. When one council develops an effective approach—for example, to parent engagement or event planning—others can learn about it through OCASC meetings and adapt it to their own communities. This exchange of practical experience strengthens collaboration across the district.
