Communicating with Families

School councils serve the entire parent community. Keeping communication clear and consistent helps more families participate. Councils can use existing school channels—such as the principal’s newsletter, the school website, or approved electronic messaging systems—to share updates about meeting dates, activities, and opportunities to contribute. Using these established platforms keeps information accurate and accessible.

Short, straightforward messages are most effective. A brief note summarizing recent council discussions, upcoming events, and volunteer needs helps families stay informed without excess detail. For parents who prefer in-person contact, information boards or notices displayed at the school continue to work well.

The aim is simple access, not volume. When families know where to find reliable information and understand that their participation is welcome, councils benefit from steadier attendance and stronger connections within the school community. Clear communication supports inclusion and helps every parent see a path to involvement.
