Share Your Feedback: Elementary Program Review

The OCDSB is looking to improve our elementary program quality and accessibility. Currently, the district offers six programs (English with Core French, Middle French Immersion, Early French Immersion, Alternative, and Ottawa-Carleton Virtual), along with special education supports, classes, and programming. We also have 8 different elementary school configurations and a complex range of programs.

While the current model has served the needs of many in our community for over 25 years, we know that many other students have been underserved. This review is an opportunity for us to think about what programming we offer, how and where it is offered, whose needs are served, and how schools may be redesigned to better meet the needs of current and future generations. The program review could lead to several outcomes including adjustments, enhancements to the current model, or exploration of other models.

We are currently seeking online input from parents/caregivers, students, staff, and community members to help guide decisions moving forward. You can share your feedback on Engage OCDSB.

There will be more ways to get involved and share your voice, including upcoming Community Conversations in May. You can stay informed about these opportunities and other updates related to the program review on Engage OCDSB.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

The district has scheduled 7 public meetings for the Elementary Program Review. These gatherings will feature small group discussions led by Elementary Principals, Trustees, and Superintendents. Topics up for discussion include the current program’s impact on student learning and well-being, proposed changes to enrich educational experiences, and the necessary support for smooth transitions to the new model. These engagement sessions aim to gather valuable input from parents and families to support potential enhancements to the elementary program.
