FAQs

Register for upcoming meetings by becoming a member through our membership form or by emailing [email protected]. Once registered, delegates receive the meeting agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting in advance. Meeting notices — including the Zoom registration link and agenda — are emailed to all school-council chairs and registered delegates several days before each meeting. General meeting details are also shared on our Facebook page.

OCASC meetings are open to the public to observe. Only school-council delegates, or the chair when acting as delegate, may take part in discussions and vote on motions. Observers may be invited to speak at the Chair’s discretion.

Delegates and school-council chairs can suggest agenda items or guest speakers by emailing the Chair before the meeting notice is sent. Agendas are shared in advance, so please send suggestions early. Urgent matters can sometimes be raised under “New Business” if time allows.

Approved minutes from general and executive meetings are shared with member schools and posted under Minutes once available.

Each school council should confirm its OCASC delegate at the start of every school year. To update delegate information, email [email protected] with your school name, the delegate’s full name, and contact details. This keeps your school’s membership and voting eligibility current.

OCASC helps school councils share ideas, connect with other schools, and raise system wide issues that affect families across the district. It can guide councils toward the right contacts or departments within the OCDSB for additional support. However, OCASC does not become involved in individual school, staff, or student matters — these should be addressed directly with the school principal, the superintendent responsible for your school, or the appropriate OCDSB department for resolution.

OCASC holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) each October, when Executive positions are elected for the coming year. Any school council delegate or chair from a member council in good standing may stand for election. Nominations are accepted during the meeting itself.
