IMPORTANT – OCDSB Schools to Shift to Remote Learning on April 19th

Dear OCDSB Families,

All elementary and secondary schools will be closed for in-person learning after the April break. OCDSB in-person students will begin remote learning starting on Monday, April 19, 2021 until further notice.

There will be further considerations for students with special education needs. The District has received the Ministry direction and will be determining over the coming days, in consultation with Ottawa Public Health, how this will be implemented for students and staff. More information will be forthcoming.

The Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, has made the decision in response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants, and the massive spike in hospital admissions.

Child Care

The Ontario government noted that child care for non-school aged children (infant, toddler and preschool age groups) will remain open. Before and after school programs including the Extended Day Program will be closed. This includes the scheduled PA day on April 23rd. At this time, we are waiting for direction in regards to the availability and eligibility of Emergency Child Care for frontline workers.

Technology Support

If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook or an Internet hotspot, please contact the principal of your child’s school via email. Principals will respond on or after April 19th.

Asynchronous Learning Day – April 19th

Please note that April 19th will be an asynchronous learning day for all OCDSB students and staff. This will allow for important transition time.

You can expect more information from your school on April 19th, with live video synchronous instruction to begin on April 20th.

Thank you,

Camille Williams-Taylor

Director of Education
