OCASC Meeting Notes

OCASC Meeting Notes logo We had a great turnout for the first meeting of the 2010/2011 school year.  49 people were at the September 23 OCASC meeting, despite many parents having to miss out due to Meet the Teacher Nights at their various schools.  Thank you to all who joined us.

OCDSB Student Survey

We had an interesting and informative presentation from Jacqueline Lawrence, Diversity and Equity Coordinator with the OCDSB.  She updated us on an extensive student survey that the school board is undertaking this fall.  The results of the survey will help the district to enhance its efforts to reduce barriers to student learning, and to reduce achievement gaps wherever they be. Watch for more information on this student survey, from the OCDSB and from OCASC in days and weeks to come.

Chalk It Up

At Chalk It Up we had people sharing information about:

  • Mathmania (Fallingbrook),
  • Paperless communications – school council parent e-mails lists (Sawmill Creek)
  • Mathletes (Adrienne Clarskon),
  • Pace Car Programme (Agincourt),
  • Ottawa Police Autism Registry (parent),
  • Canadian Parents for French (Castor Valley),
  • Playstructure security concerns(Castor Valley)

You will see more on some of these, on this website shortly.

OCDSB Strategic Plan

Michele Giroux spoke to us about the OCDSB’s new strategic plan that is currently being created.  They have already had meetings to receive input from various stakeholders groups, and in November there will be an opportunity for input from the public.  Parents who are interested in the strategic plan and providing input towards it are encouraged to read the 21st Century Learners document produced by the OCDSB.

Next OCASC meeting, October 21.  Hope to see you there!
